Take up the Cross

Let us start with the reading of the Word of God. This is a scripture that for years I could not understand, but the Word of God reveals the Word of God.

Mark 10: 17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Take up the Cross!

Now if we also consider the Bible says not to yield our members as instruments of unrighteousness, and also that we are not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof, the scripture now makes sense. Now we can understand the Lord is not suggesting to remove limbs, but to destroy the lusts of the flesh that lead to sin and destruction.

Take up the Cross. If you notice, Jesus had not been crucified yet. But he tells us to take up the Cross. How very prophetic, yet everyone glosses over it. Many times through his ministry he mentions those words “take up the Cross”. We often quote this saying as well, yet we put the wrong emphasis on it, the wrong revelation of it.

We are going to the doctor tonight for a checkup. We are going to sit in the office of Dr. Jesus and have him x-ray us a bit, diagnose some things, and give us some medicine. Don’t let the diagnosis scare you, the medicine never fails.

To take up a Cross is not just to take up a burden. You hear people say that “we all have a cross to bear”. It is not some bothersome thing, some little inconvenience that we have to live around. It is not to take upon yourself a minor duty, or a sacrifice in life. We say that we “have a cross to bear” as though it is some small burden, some trivial inconvenience through life. It is far deeper.

To take up a Cross is to DIE!

It means to crucify the flesh. It is not a burden through our lives, it is the END of our lives. Not only do we die, we must kill ourselves. Now this is not suicide. No. Quite the opposite. This is the crucifixion of the Old Man and the Lusts of that life, so that we can live eternally with Christ Jesus living through us.

Romans 6: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Those of us who are baptized in the proper Biblical Baptism, in full immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ, are BURIED with him in baptism. Our old man is crucified with him. He that is DEAD is free from sin. We are baptized into his death, buried with him, dead unto ourselves, that we might rise with him.

He cannot resurrect a living man. That just don’t even make sense.

It would have looked pretty dumb for Jesus to show up at Lazarus’ house while he was sitting back sipping some tea and pronounce him resurrected. Jesus had to wait, not only until he was dead, but until the flesh was totally corrupted and rotten. Our flesh is corrupt.

He that is dead is free from sin. If we ain’t dead, then we are NOT FREE FROM SIN!

Notice the order that Jesus spoke to the rich ruler. He said 1) take up the cross, then 2) follow me. If we have not taken up the cross, if we have not died, if we have not crucified the old man, our old characters, our old lusts and desires, our old way of thinking, then we are NOT following him. I don’t care how you were baptized or who baptized you! If you did not die first, your baptism was of none effect.

Let that sink in!

I told you we were going under the x-ray tonight.

65-1128E – On The Wings Of A Snow-White Dove – William Branham

Like I could go up here take each one of you and baptize you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that won’t remit your sins. No, no! No, I don’t believe in water baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ unto regeneration; I believe the Blood is regeneration, see, not—not the water.

But, see, I could baptize and baptize, but you only go down a dry sinner, come up a wet one; see, until you have thoroughly repented. Repent, and then be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ. See? And that’s where I different with the Oneness movement. Not baptizing to regeneration, no; I believe it’s the Blood that cleanses, not the water. See? Repentance, and then be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Repent, then be baptized. Repent! Take up the Cross, then follow me. If we have not crucified our flesh, as long as we are still alive to ourselves, we are NOT following Christ, we are still sinners. We are going into the water as dry sinners, and coming out of it as wet sinners. And we remain sinners until, as the Prophet told us frankly “we thoroughly repent”.

Put it ALL under the blood. Confess EVERYTHING.

And that is why the Church is in such a mess today! That is why there are so many foolish virgins. That is why there is no power in the Church. That is why there are no gifts manifesting.

We have too many wet sinners today!

Kill that Old Man! He is unbelieving and sinful!

Mark 9: 43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

We kill some of the old man, repent a bit, confess a bit, but not all. We let a little of that old character live here and there. But God’s x-ray sees it all.

  • Maybe an eye, for some dirty pictures.
  • Maybe an ear, for dirty jokes, or worldly music.
  • Maybe a hand, for a little stealing, or a little gambling, lottery.
  • Maybe a foot, to go where no Christian should ever go.
  • Maybe our tongues for a little gossip, lies or backbiting.
  • Maybe a little piece of our brains, for thinking things we should not think, and desiring things God does not desire.
  • Maybe a piece of our hearts for some bitterness, or doubt.
  • Maybe our fingernails for a little clear polish, or our lips for some lip gloss.
  • Maybe our holidays away from Christians for a bikini at the beach.

If we allow any of that old man, that old carnal, beast character to live in us, we are not following Christ. Repent! That character cannot follow him and will always lead us in the exact opposite direction. It will lead us away from the Word of God. That is the character that ran from the Lord in Eden. That character is why God had to come and find us. We were not looking for him, he was looking for us. The world is not looking for him, does not want him, rejects him, and curses his Holy Name. It is carnal, brutish, evil.

That character doesn’t want to come to Church. That character does not want to pray and worship when he gets here. That character does not want to receive the Word of God. That character does not want to repent and refuses to receive correction. That character is proud. That character causes divisions in the body of Christ. That character disbelieves the Word of God. That character worships the man instead of the God in the man.

Any time you see any of those things rising up inside you, that is the old man trying to come back to life.

Kill him!

Romans 8: For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

The carnal mind, the old man, cannot please God. No matter what we do, as long as we are doing it carnally, it is displeasing unto the Lord. If we get up and sing a song, it could be the most beautiful song ever, hitting every note perfectly with the most heart felt emotions ever, making the whole room cry, but if we are carnal in our approach to it, we are displeasing the Lord. He rejects it!

If we pray from our own carnal thoughts, our prayers are displeasing to him. We could be quoting the Bible, quoting the message, perfectly, but carnally, and displeasing unto the Lord. He rejects it!

If we preach, no matter if we are perfectly quoting the Bible and the Prophet, for that is what the devil did when he came to Jesus, and what the Serpent did when he came to Eve, if we are carnal, we are displeasing and a hateful abomination unto the Lord. And anything and everything that is contrary to the Message of the Hour, the Revealed Word of God, is CARNAL.

  • Now talk to me about women preachers!

Carnality! Abominations unto the Lord God!

The spirit by which we live, is the spirit by which we worship, and the same spirit by which we pray, and sing, and testify. We don’t change spirits like coats. One for work, one for home, one for church. No Sir! Don’t ever think that for a minute.

If we are living by a lying spirit out in the world doing shady business deals all week, then we are praying by a lying spirit here in the Church. If we are living by an adulterous spirit at home, then we are singing by that self same adulterous spirit in Church.

Do you see it? Do you see it?

Romans 6: 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

We are servants, Slaves, of that which we yield ourselves to obey. If we yield to God, then we are servants of God. If we yield to sin, we are servants of Satan. And that word “servant” is “Slave” in the Greek. A slave is a possession. If we yield to sin, we are possessed by the devil.

59-0612 – All The Days Of Our Life – William Branham

27 The Holy Spirit speaking in the Scriptures tonight, said that we might serve Him all the days of our life in holiness before Him; that’s cleanliness, holiness. But today, you can mention the word, “holy,” and people laugh at it. See how Satan’s got it all wrapped up? But you are a slave. And if you are a Christian, you’re a slave. You’re a bondslave of the Lord Jesus. If there’s two people of you, both spirit and body… And if you cater to the flesh, you’re a slave of the devil, and you’ll crucify the soul that’s in you. For the Bible said, “The soul that sinneth, that soul shall die.” And you have to crucify the flesh in order to be a bondslave in your flesh to be a servant of Jesus Christ. So, you’re a slave any way you take it. And you’ll… You can’t get away from it.

28 So you’re a slave; you’re marked. And the Bible said in the last days, there would be two marks. And every person on the earth would have one or the other. You just can’t get out of it. One’s the mark of the beast, the other one was a Seal of God. And the Seal of God is the Holy Spirit, God’s provided way for His Church.

Ephesians 4:30 said, “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you’re sealed unto the day of your redemption.” And to reject that Holy Spirit is to take on the mark of the beast. All that didn’t have the Mark of God had the mark of the devil. So, you’re marked. You’re either marked a bondslave in the love of God, or you’re marked a slave to the things of the world of the devil. That’s hard. But we are slaves, and we want to serve Him all the days of our life. A slave is a servant. In order to be a servant of Jesus Christ, you have to be a slave to yourself, to crucify… Oh, God, let it sink in. Crucify yourself, and your flesh, and your desires, that God might take hold in your heart to move you and motivate you. That’s the slave of Christ, the bondslave called—Paul called it. He said he was a slave to the Lord Jesus, a bondslave in service for the Lord Jesus, going about daily, crucifying the flesh to be a slave for Jesus Christ, rejoicing because he was a slave. That’s it.

That old man is not of God. His character is not of God. He must be put to death first, then we follow Christ. Repent, THEN be baptized. Take up the Cross, THEN follow me. Break free from the bondage of sin and the shackles of the enemy. He surely makes sin look tasty to the flesh. The more evil it is in God’s eyes, the more it makes your mouth water.

63-0607 – Be Not Afraid – William Branham

106 Christianity is self-denial. “Take up your cross daily. Follow Him.” Die out, to the things of the world. When all condemnation is gone, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.” How do you get into Him? By joining? No. Shaking hands? No. By a union? By education? “By one Spirit we are all baptized into one Body.” By Holy Spirit baptism we’re in Christ. “And there’s no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, that walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Amen. Oh, that, that would make anybody shout. Amen. To be in there, anyhow, that’s the good part. All right.

We all need the Holy Spirit!

There is no other way. Baptism is good, but not good enough. The new birth is by water, blood and spirit. A baby that is born of water and of blood, with no spirit, is still born. It is dead! Spirit is life and the Holy Spirit is eternal life. Too often we get half way and think we have arrived.

Ezekiel 36: 25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

He will sprinkle clean water upon you, the water of the Word of God, the living water. He will cleanse you from all your idols. Anybody still got a couple of idols hidden in a closet somewhere? He will cleanse you of it, just surrender to him. He will take away your heart of stone, and give you a heart of flesh. A heart of flesh is tender and can receive and absorb the water. He will give you a new spirit. And that is where we stop.

We get a new spirit. We get justified. We get sanctified. And we stop. We feel good. We are clean. But we have not gone on to receive HIS SPIRIT.

We are still born foolish virgins! The Old Man keeps creeping back in to our lives, or worse, we have not gotten rid of him in the first place.

Here is the great warning. Listen Close.

Matthew 12: 43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

We get a new heart. We get baptized. We get cleansed of our old sins. We feel great. But we have not crucified the old man, and we have not received the Holy Spirit. We are not sealed unto the day of redemption. Then that old devil that possessed us comes sneaking back. Now he is a little scared so he has brought a few friends along. He brought a Proud Spirit, and a Religious Spirit, and a Gossip Spirit and four or five others. That whole group now enters in where just the one dwelt before. Now try and get free.

Now try and get free!

You will be too proud and religious to repent.

Crucify the Old Man! Today! And receive the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 15: 29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? 30 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? 31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

We must crucify our flesh daily. When we take up the cross, there is no mention of us putting it back down. We carry the cross to the grave, or the rapture, which ever comes first.

Did you pick up the cross? Is it on your back this moment? Is it with you every day, all day? Is it with you when you are talking with friends and coworkers? Is it with you in the restaurant when you get your meal and ask the Lord’s blessing in a loud voice, or are you ashamed of him and simply bow just a little so nobody notices and quickly mumble to yourself so nobody hears? Sin, unbelief, is easy. The road is paved and everyone is there to give you directions.

If we pick up the cross, we will not be ashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ. But we will suffer every day for it. We will be hated. We will be persecuted. We will be disowned. We will be fired from jobs. We will be unfriended on Facebook. We will be insulted, falsely accused, attacked, stabbed in the back, sometimes by people in our own churches or our families. And our flesh will hate it.

If we are ashamed of him, then we have not yet taken up the cross, the old man is still ruling in our temple. We still worship those old idols.

We are stillborn!

Get born again! I don’t care what it takes, get to it. Today. Tonight. Wrestle with God until. If you are not absolutely sure of where you stand with the Lord, get a conference going on with him right now and find out. Make it sure.

Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Check that old man. Does he still have a pulse? Is he breathing? Smother him to death. Do not let him rise up.

Now some might feel a bit spanked. That is not the intention. The intention is to lift you up, to show you how we can all be wrong, and the simple solution to it.

You got to identify the disease before you can prescribe the medication.

We were just under the X-ray of the Word of God through the Message of the Hour.

We may have gotten ourselves a bad diagnosis, but we also have a very positive prognosis.

53-1201 – God’s Provided Way – William Branham

25 Now, that doesn’t make us say we can sin. Brother, if you sin, you’re just—you’re just away from God. That’s all. There’s only one thing to do, is confess it and get right with God. And as long as you desire to sin, the desire of sin’s still in your heart, then it’s time to stay down at the altar till that thing’s taken out.

26 Now you will sin. You’re bound to sin ’cause you just can’t help it, but you… but not wilfully sin. “He that sins wilfully after he receive the knowledge of the truth,” see, “there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin.” But every day you’re bound to sin.

27 And you’re bound to be backsliding constantly, so it takes a constant prayer to God. Paul said, “I die daily.” And if Paul had to die daily, how much more am I going… I’m going to have to stay dead all the time, if—if Paul had to die daily to stay right with God. And so, we’ll all have to do that, just die out to ourself. And that’s getting God’s way.

28 Now, there’s only two ways of anything: That’s the right way and the wrong way. And them ways are your ways and God’s way. And you can’t be in your way and God’s way at the same time. You’ve got to forget your own way to get in God’s way. And you got to get out of your own way to get in God’s way. For as long as you’re in your own way, you’re out of His way. So forsake your ways, forsake your thoughts, forsake everything, and just rely one thing, on THUS SAITH THE LORD. That’s all. Then you know you’re right.

Repent!

Now every Christian has Taken up the Cross. We all crucify the flesh daily. BUT, are we crucifying our WHOLE FLESH? Is there some part of that Old Man that we are allowing to live? It is like a cancer; once it gets going it spreads and devours you. Search your hearts by the Word.

Is there something maybe, not that you are yielding to Satan, but that you are not yielding to the Lord God. Failing to testify, to sing, to worship, to ask the blessing on your food in a loud voice? Maybe just to pray for a brother or sister that the Lord has put on your heart?

Search it out.

Take up the Cross!

Then Follow Jesus!

Ask What You Will

Ask What You Will

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

In other words, “If you do what I ask, then I will do what you ask”

Romans 8: 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

We see three steps here in the new birth. Water, blood and spirit. The New Birth, the Spiritual Birth, is typed by the natural birth.

Are you called? YES! Or you would not be reading this. He called you. The Lord God Jehovah has called you to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the fellowship of the Saints. But many are called, and few are chosen; it all rests on our decisions. God does the calling, but we do the choosing! We choose whether or not to accept him. We choose whether or not to believe his word. You are making the choice right now. You have been called, now choose. Choose wisely!

Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

That is the first step in Christianity. Without that step, it don’t matter who you are, or what you have done, or what family or country you come from, or who you marry, you are not even on the path. There is a way that seems right unto man, the end thereof is death. There is exactly one path to God, and that is through Christ Jesus; he is the Word, the Bible, Logos, made flesh.

Hebrews 10: For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Get sanctified! Once justified through repentance and water baptism, we need Sanctification. We need the world washed out of us, completely. Our habits must go. Our bitterness must go. Our dogmas must go. Our traditions must go. Our cultures must go. Our religion must go. Our ambitions must go. All the works of the flesh must be put to death. Crucify your flesh DAILY.

John 14: 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The world cannot receive him. The world does not know him. The world cannot see him. Jesus said “except ye be born again you cannot see the Kingdom of God”. The Godhead is hidden to the world, hidden to the denominations. Jesus Christ, like any true groom, will only reveal himself to his Bride. He will NEVER reveal himself to a strange woman, especially to a harlot. (Rev 17).

If anything of the world remains in us, we cannot receive the Holy Spirit. All those things we just discussed will prevent the Holy Spirit. Beware the little foxes! The little foxes spoil the vine.

1 John 2: 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Light and darkness cannot coexist. Good water and bad cannot come from the same fountain. If we love the world, cosmos, society, fashions, cultures, traditions, nationality, styles, politics, all of the devil, we simply do not love God. Jesus went so far to say that if we don’t hate our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters even our own lives, we are not worthy of him.

Ezekiel 36: 23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. 24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. 25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

You and I profaned the name of God in our lives. But he called us. He justified us. Now when he sanctifies us, he is sanctified IN US before the world. Isaiah the prophet, upon seeing the throne of God in heaven cried “I am an unclean man, with unclean lips, living among an unclean people!”. And the Lord sanctified him before the people and sent him forth as a Prophet to the people.

57-0127A – The Impersonation Of Christianity

William Branham

“Yes, watch the order of the Scripture. “I will take away the old stony heart, and I’ll give you a new heart.” That’s the first order. Some of them stop on that first order. Now, that’s… You are—you’re just getting started. Then He said, “I’ll give you a new spirit.” There’s where a lot of you Pentecostals fail. You had to have a new spirit. Oh, you felt good and you felt like that, “Oh, well, I just, oh, I feel fine. I—I—I couldn’t have it.” Well, you just got started. You’re just getting fixed up now to just… You’re just coming in line. He had to give you a new spirit. Why you couldn’t get along with yourself with the old spirit. So how could you get along with God’s Spirit? So He had to give you a new spirit. 36 Now, watch the Bible. “I’ll give you—take the old stony heart away, and give you a heart of flesh, tender-hearted. And then I’ll give you a new spirit. And then, I’ll put My Spirit in you. Now, watch. His Spirit was different from your new spirit. And many people gets the new spirit and think they get the Holy Spirit. They get feeling happy, and jump around, and maybe do a few things religiously. And they think that they got the Holy Spirit. Oh, no, the Holy Spirit makes you act different. The Holy Spirit makes you think different. The Holy Spirit was put right in the middle of your new spirit. And your new spirit was put right in the middle of your new heart. The new heart, the new spirit, in the middle of the new heart, and God said, “I will put My Spirit in you.” Now then, God’s Spirit sets right in the middle of your spirit, your new spirit. And then you don’t have to go out and act like Mrs. Jones does and like Mr. Jones does. There’s just something in you; you just got the love of God so down in you, till you just live it. It isn’t you; it’s something in you. 37 So many people try to put on a Christian face or a Christian front on Sunday. And on Monday you should see the kind of face they got on. But now, that’s impersonation with… They’re nothing in the world in my book, but hypocrites. Exactly. As congressman Upshaw, you all know, was healed in my meetings after he’d been crippled for sixty-six years. He said, “You can’t be nothing that you hain’t.” And that’s right. Be what you are. God grant the day that when the Christian church will be what it’s supposed to be. If you’re for Christ, live for Christ; give your all for Christ. Open up your heart. Don’t think of what the things are around you. Think of what Christ is to you and in you. 38  That new spirit in you, and God’s Holy Spirit setting in the center of your new spirit, is just like the mainspring in a famous watch. As the—the spring in the famous watch, just begins to tick, it makes every organism of the watch work just exactly right; it’s the new spring, the main spring. And the main spring of Christianity is the baptism of the Holy Ghost, not some man-made theology, not some denomination; but it’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit that sets every organ in that church working in order. Something wrong, brethren. That’s right. Just as the Holy Spirit moves and governs His church, every little tick goes just exactly the same, and it fits just exactly in time with the Bible. Everything fits right around the Bible; no matter what the theologian says; the Bible says. It ticks right with that, ’cause if the Holy Spirit that wrote the Bible, come in to tick the Bible off and lay it out, just exactly the way it’s written. Oh, I hope you see that. You see it?”

The Holy Spirit makes you act different. IN every way. We become new creations in Christ Jesus, Literally. We get sick to die, instead of going to man, to the doctors, we go to the Lord in Prayer. We don’t take medicine, we use oil. Nothing against the doctors and medicine, we as Christians just don’t need them; We trust in the Lord. And make no mistake, when the squeeze comes, you will either have to accept the Mark of the Beast, or you will not have access to the doctors.

And if you seriously think you are going to somehow miraculously receive faith then, think again FOOLISH VIRGINS.

That FAITH comes by hearing, by hearing the Word of God, TODAY!

  63-0901M – Token
William Branham

“If our hearts condemn us not, then we have our petition, see, we know.” But if sin is in our heart, then it condemns us, we—we just might as well not even start. See? You’ve got to get free from sin. And the only way you can get free from sin is get in Him. That’s the only covering there is for sin, is Christ. 336  Remember, the covenant Blood, the covenant Blood is not recognized without the Token. You cannot. You will not. You say, “Well, I—I been sanctified from things.” That’s not the Token. It’s the Spirit, is the Token, the Spirit of Christ upon you. Believe it! 337  Now, look, the Word assures us of the promise. All these are texts I’ve set down here. Just keep on preaching all day, look like, see, on it. See? The Word assures us of the promise, because It is the promise. The Word is the Promise, and the Word is the God, and the Word is—is ours. And we become the Word, and the Word becomes us. “And if ye abide in Me, and My Word in you,” then, see, it just becomes one great big family. See? It assures us. Because why? Well, it’s part of us. See? See? See, It becomes part of us. What a text! All right. Assures us, the promise. 338  The Token is the sign that the purchase has been made and been accepted. Now, you can’t get the token from the railroad fare until you pay the price; and the only way you’re going to pay the price is pay it. That’s right. What? Believe It. Accept It. Full obedience to the whole Word of God will entitle you to the Token. Full obedience! Not the part of It as far as your denomination goes, but all of It. Full obedience to the Word, which is Christ, brings you into Christ. 339 Now what if you was just all in, but your feet hanging out? What if you was all in, with hands hanging out? Most all of us in, but the heart hanging out? See? See? The heart’s in the world yet? See? But we don’t do that. 340 Full, complete obedience puts you and the Word One. You believe It, every bit. And all of It’s in you, and you watch It working through you.”

Look at Israel at Kadesh Barnea. We will all come to Kadesh Barnea. We will all come to a place with the Word, with the Message, where it is too hard for us. We will eventually come to a place where we either have to crucify our flesh to accept the Word of God, or we will reject the Word of God and die in the spirit. And we won’t even know it! Spiritual death is a silent death. Darkness slips in to our hearts, and the light goes away, and we become spiritually blind, and don’t know it.

For some it might be hair, that the Bible forbids women to cut it and forbids men not to. Or it might be that the Bible forbids cross dressing – saying that it is an abomination unto the Lord God for a woman to wear pants for example. Or it might be the godhead. Or proper baptism. Any number of things, and different for each. But we will ALL come to Kadesh in our walks before receiving the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 3: 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

They don’t even know it! Blind! Wretched! Naked! Miserable! And don’t know it. That is the church today! Can you imagine if you were physically naked, blind, miserable, wretched sitting in your chair and had lost your mind to the point where you did not even know it? That is the spiritual state of the churches today. The god of this world had blinded their eyes to it.

2 Timothy 2: 1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

This is not the world he is addressing. This is the church! They have preachers! But they have rejected sound doctrine, rejected the Revealed Word of God for the hour, rejected the Elijah Ministry of Malachi 4:5-6, Rejected the Seventh Angel, rejected Christ. They have rejected the Holy Spirit and taken on a form of godliness.

Naaman came to Elisha. He was told to dunk himself seven times in the Jordan. Not the Nile, not a pond, not an ocean. not a swimming pool, the Jordan. E was told to dunk Seven times, not six and not eight. After the 6th dunk he had leprosy. After the Seventh, he was perfectly healed and restored. Had he gone for eight, that leprosy would have returned and he would have died of it.

He did exactly what the Word of God told him to do, and the Word of God did exactly as he asked!

FULL OBEDIENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD ENTITLES YOU TO THE TOKEN!

Peter, filled with the holy spirit gave us the exact prescription for Christian baptism, repentance with full immersion in the name of Jesus Christ. Apollos, a man that the Bible called a mighty preacher, a believer turning souls to Christ, convincing the world that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, had to be rebaptized in Peter’s prescription to the letter to receive the Holy Spirit.

God refused to fill him until he was in FULL OBEDIENCE.

The Lord God has to either hold us to that exact same standard, or he is a hypocrite and a liar.

FULL OBEDIENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD ENTITLES YOU TO THE TOKEN!

Jesus gave us the prescription for the Lord’s supper. Unleaven bread, Kosher wine, foot washing. Paul went on to give us a more complete picture. In that he said if we take it unworthily, we eat and drink DAMNATION unto ourselves. If full obedience is required for the Token, and anything less than FULL OBEDIENCE disqualifies us, then how about rejecting the Word?

DAMNATION!

Full Obedience means complete, unfailing obedience to the FULL REVEALED WORD OF GOD!

James 2: 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

FULL OBEDIENCE TO THE FULL WORD OF GOD ENTITLES YOU TO THE TOKEN!

Galatians 1: But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

The written Word of God, the Spoken Message of the Hour, is NOT to be messed with, not to be changed, not to be interpreted.

2 Peter 1: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

The moment we interpret the Word or the Message, we are bending it to the desires of our flesh. That is exactly what the devil did in the Garden of Eden. That is the very sin that caused every sickness, every disease, every pain, every worry, every tear, every death of all mankind. It brought the flood upon the world. It is about to bring FIRE upon this world!

FULL OBEDIENCE TO THE FULL WORD OF GOD ENTITLES YOU TO THE TOKEN!

Look at Gideon! When the angel appeared to him his question was, “if God is with us, where are the signs and wonders?”

Where are the Signs and Wonders Today? Where are the Gifts? Where are the healings? Where are the miracles? Where are the visions? Where are the tongues and interpretations? Where are the Prophecies?

God’s Church today is the same as God’s Church 2000 years ago. Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever. He is the same.

The Church today, the Bride of Christ, will exactly resemble the Church in the Book of Acts, or they are NOT the Church of the Living God!

They are impersonations of Christianity. Make believers. Wolves in sheep clothing. Cold, dead, formalized twofold children of hell.

Revelation 18: And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

FULL OBEDIENCE TO THE FULL REVEALED WORD OF GOD ENTITLES YOU TO THE TOKEN!

THEN, ask what you will in my name believing and I will do it.

If our hearts condemn us, then we are not in full obedience. If we feel condemned when hearing the Word of God, if we feel uncomfortable around the Bride, around those filled with the Holy Spirit, If your heart condemns you, if you find yourself skipping the Lord’s Supper,

Without the Holy Spirit, we are not yet Christians. We are still born! That is the problem in the Message, too many foolish virgins, had an emotional time, went to a revival and stole a lick of fire from somebody else’s flame but have no oil to sustain it.

Or are you getting lukewarm?

FIX IT! TODAY!

Hebrews 10: 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Yes this applies to attending Church, but not only Church. Who is your best friend? Is he/she in the Message? Are they living the Word? When you are out with your friends and you see someone from church, do you get uncomfortable? Afraid of what they might say? Afraid of what they may see or hear?

If we are in full obedience to the word then we are living Christ everywhere. Worldy friends won’t hang around for long. They will be embarrassed to be seen with you. They won’t like the things you have to say. You sit down at a restaurant, at Tim Horton’s, you bow your head and ask the blessing on your donuts in a loud voice. They won’t hang for long. But Christians will.

Fellowship with Christians. Don’t forsake the assembling of yourselves together. If you are with the world, testify to them until they either leave or receive. But don’t let them bring you into their world; that is death. Make your fellowship among the Bride of Christ.

Be in full obedience to the Word of God. To EVERY Word of God!

Then ask whatsoever you will, and he will do it.

The Mystery of the Godhead

Godhead and the Bride of Christ

The Godhead Bodily
The Godhead Bodily is Jesus Christ

Godhead is an interesting term and a mystery to most. To the Bride of Jesus Christ the godhead is no longer a mystery. He is her head, her Bridegroom. She is part of him, flesh of his flesh, blood of his blood, bone of his bone. But to those who have not yet been born again, who do not know Jesus Christ personally, even though they may have been attending a “church” for many years, the godhead remains a complete mystery. In fact many have not even heard the term “godhead” ever spoken in their Churches.

Please bear with me hear and forgive my ramblings. I believe I might be able, by the grace of God, to shed some new light for you on this mystery of the godhead.

It All Starts with Revelation

Jesus spoke to us in parables. So much so that the apostles questioned him on the practice. He told them in

Matthew 13: 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

And in Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to other in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

And more particularly in Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables 12 that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Revelation, you see, is only given to the elect, to the Bride of Christ. It is only given to those with a desire for it. Jesus told us:

Matthew 7: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

As your read this, please seek, knock and ask of the Lord for his revelation. Don’t take my word for anything. I am just a man. Take God’s word. Seek the revelation of it through the Holy Spirit. Seek and ye SHALL find. Knock and it SHALL be opened. Ask and it SHALL be given.

The Mystery of the Godhead

So, taking this into consideration let us start by having a look at what the Lord Jesus said in Matthew about baptism.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of he Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Look at exactly what he said. He directed us to baptize in the “name”. That is singular; one name. He did not say names, plural, but one singular name. And he did not say titles either. Father is not a name, it is a title. So is son. And holy ghost, that is not even a title but more of a description. I am a father. I am also a son. I am also an engineer. But neither of those are my “name”. They are just titles I hold. Jesus specifically told us to baptize in the “name”. So then how do we baptize? We must find out what the “NAME” is that Jesus was talking about.

See, even this scripture was given to us in a parable without direct revelation. This is very similar to when he said “if you don’t eat my flesh and drink my blood you cannot be my disciple”. He did not give an immediate explanation there, and the apostles didn’t even get it until the night of the Lord’s Supper when he broke the bread and passed the wine. They believed it but did not know what exactly they were believing. At the Lord’s supper he explained it and revealed unto them what the body and blood of the Lord meant.

Then we have been handed another puzzle. It is the mystery of the godhead. But the answer, the revelation, MUST be in the Word or he never would have said it.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his “NAME” shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

That should settle it for us right there. The “son” was born. His “name” is also “the everlasting Father” and the “councillor”. Do you see it yet? There are three offices of one God. God above us, God with us, God in us. There were three jobs that needed to be done, but the only one capable of doing them was the Lord God himself. So he manifested himself in three separate offices to fulfill the word. But lets take it a little further for the word says let nothing be established but before two or three witnesses.

Matthew 1: 20 While he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Well isn’t this marvellous? We find that the angel tells Joseph that Mary’s baby is conceived of the “holy ghost”. What???? I thought that the father of Jesus was God the Father, and here we see plainly that the “holy ghost” is named as the father of Jesus. So then either God the Father is the self same person as the Holy Ghost or Jesus has two fathers, and that would make him a bastard and not a son. I’m not sacrilegious or blasphemous here, I am pointing out a basic truth. It has to be one way or the other. Either the Lord God Jehovah Father IS the Holy Spirit, or there is something completely wrong.

John 14: 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father: and how sayest thou then. Show us the Father?

That is pretty plain english to me. When you see Jesus, you see the Father. Compare that with Isaiah 9:6 for reference. Jesus therefore is the Father in flesh. They are one and the same. They are not two separate entities, or two separate persons. They are two manifestations of the ONE person.

Now we see Jesus doing something else. Later in this chapter when speaking of the Holy Spirit we find him interchanging titles all over the place. Watch and see.

John 14:16 and I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with your for ever. 17 Even the Spirit of Truth; which the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (Who was dwelling with them? Jesus. See here he says the spirit is coming but then in the next verse) 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. (so then who is coming? The spirit or him? They are one and the same person. Then we see him say) 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandment, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (Saying it is him again but then he says) 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him, ( so now it is both the father and son. but then he turns and says) 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. 25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send IN MY NAME, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ( See now it is just the Holy Ghost again “in his name”, refer once again to Isaiah but then) 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (See here he again says he is coming but then says he is going to the Father.)

Then we can add to that these two scriptures:

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

So who is the mediator then, Jesus or the Holy Spirit? Either Jesus Christ IS the Holy Spirit or the Bible is wrong and self contradictory. It not only says that Jesus is the mediator, it says that he is the “ONLY” mediator. Then it says that the Holy Spirit makes intercession. The only way for these two scriptures to agree is if Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit.

Look at this:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…….14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15 John bare witness of him and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

And Jesus speaking:

John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. 57 then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was I AM.

Jesus plainly told us that He is the great I AM and that he and Abraham saw each other. When?

Genesis 14: 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19 and he blessed him, and said Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth. 20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand, and he gave him tithes of all.

So who was this Melchizedek that met Abraham?

Hebrews 7: 1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of Peace; 3 Without father or mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God, abideth a priest continually.

And then also we can look at :

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: god was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

“God was manifest in the flesh”. God was “justified in the Spirit”. God was “seen of angels”. God was preached unto the gentiles”. God was “believed on in the world”. God was “received up into glory”. All those things speak of the Lord Jesus Christ and yet the Bible calls him “God”. That is the mystery of the godhead. That is also the revelation of the godhead.

And discerning what someone would think and say in advance, the Lord directed my by his spirit to point out that the word “God” here comes from the Greek “Theos”. Theos defines the person spoken of here as God the Father, Jehovah, Elohim, the great I AM. So speaking specifically of Theos, the Bible describes the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.

And as well this scripture:

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

WHOA!! Who died for us??? I though Jesus died for us. The son died on the cross. But here it clearly says that GOD died for us. So then Jesus Christ MUST be God or the scripture doesn’t run true. I know, it is hard to break through the trinity dogma that you have been beaten over the head with all your life. But just stop and look at the word. Look at what the Bible says. It is clear. Don’t take my word for it, seek, ask and knock. Seek the revelation from the Lord.

And we can also add this scripture:

John 5:43 I come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

He came in his father’s name. I came in my father’s name. His last name was Brake and guess what, so is mine. Jesus came in his Father’s name.

Baptism and the Mystery of the Godhead

So then where does this all lead us? Right back to where we started. What is the One “name” by which we should be baptized, which is the “name” of the Father, and is also the “name” of the Son (same name) and is also the “name” of the Holy Spirit (same name again)? What is the ONE name for all three? What is the name of the godhead?

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized, every one of you in the “name” of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, 39 for the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

So there you have it. The reason the trinitarians baptize in titles is:

1) they do not have the revelation of the godhead,

2) they do not have the revelation of Matthew 28:19.

3) They choose to ignore acts 2;38-39.

4) They choose to ignore the fact that the only Christian baptism found in scriptures, in Church history, or even in secular history, was in accordance with Acts 2:38-39 until Rome brought in their heresies at the Nicene Council of 325 AD.

They have the parable, but as we saw earlier, without the revelation of the godhead they will be lost. Without revelation the word becomes a dead letter. That is why there are over 1,000 denominations, all preaching out of the same book, all disagreeing. They don’t have the same spirit. So which church is right? NONE of them! Only Jesus Christ is right. It don’t matter where you fellowship. Those organizations are not Churches. They are simply lodges. You and I are the Church. The Church is the people, the called out ones. The only truth is the Bible. The one true God and eternal life is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the mystery, the revelation and manifestation of the godhead bodily.

In fact there is only one baptism that God accepts and that is the baptism in Acts 2:38. Without it we have no remission of sins, and without it we will not receive the Holy Spirit.

Let me leave you with one final example from the scriptures. There was a man, a lawyer, who had started preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible even goes so far as to call him a “mighty preacher”. This man was persuading men to receive the Lord Jesus and their Lord and Saviour. He had a small but growing congregation of dedicated souls. This man had run across two noted Christians, Aquila and Priscilla. They led the Apostle Paul to go to one of his meetings.

Acts 19:  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.

So here was a church, with its pastor, all Christians all baptized by John the Baptist. Yet they had not received the Holy Spirit. They were living sanctified lives. They had repented. They had done more than most Christians today. They were perfectly sincere and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet the Lord had refused to fill them with the Holy Spirit. They did not yet have the revelation of the godhead.

Now when the Apostle and Prophet Paul came to visit, the Holy Spirit in him discerned that something was not quite right. So he, led by the spirit, asked them how they were baptized. That was the problem. They were baptized. They were even baptized by John the Baptist, the man who baptized the Lord Jesus Christ. He was also the man who Jesus said was the greatest of all the prophets. Yet that was not good enough.

They had to be rebaptized in accordance with Acts 2:38-39 which is the revelation of Matthew 28:19.

Apollos immediately obeyed the Word of the Lord. He received the revelation of who Jesus Christ is, of the godhead, and the Holy Spirit of promise. Not only did he obey, his entire congregation followed him into the water to be baptized in full immersion in water in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Why could Apollos not receive the Holy Spirit? He had not fulfilled the requirements. The Lord gave us a requirement. He expected the 120 in the upper room to obey it, the 3,000 on the day of Pentecost to obey it, Apollos and his congregation to obey it. He also requires you and I to obey it.

That revelation of the proper and only acceptable baptism is also the revelation of the godhead.

It is not three persons, a committee. It is ONE God, ONE person, the Lord Jesus Christ, manifested in three offices to fulfill God’s plan of salvation for humanity.

If it still isn’t real to you, please, please, I beg of you, pray over it. Fast and pray, read the scriptures over and over until the Lord God himself reveals the truth to you in his word by his Holy Spirit. Do you not wonder why the Bible never says “three persons”, never says “trinity” but always says “one true God”? Because there is only ONE, manifesting three offices. Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the fulness of the godhead bodily.

Pray and seek and the Lord will reveal it.

God Bless you richly.

Unto What Were Ye Baptized?

Unto what were you baptized?

Water Baptism
Water Baptism in Jesus Name

That is quite a question to ask today. Many will get their fur up when you do. But we need to ask it. The Lord has given us a very specific formula for baptism, as for everything else. We, however, seem to always think we know things better.

Line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little the Bible says. We must then take the Word of God and study it to see exactly what it says.

What’s in a name?

Now Jesus did say:

Matthew 28: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

But let us look at it a little closer. Jesus said to baptize in the “NAME” (singular, not names plural). So there is one NAME that is the name of the Father. Father is not a name, it is a title. Son is also a title. Holy Ghost is a description. So what is the one, singular “NAME” that is the Name of the Father and is also the same NAME as the Son, and is also the same NAME as the Holy Ghost?

Peter gives us the revelation of that question here:

Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Here Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, having the keys in his hands tells us quite plainly what the one, singular name is. That “NAME” is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the only Name given where we are to be baptized. If you search the Bible and search church histories and even secular histories, you will not find one single Christian baptized in any other way than in exact accordance to Acts 2:38-39. What’s in a name?

Acts 4: 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

That is what is in the “Name”. Salvation is in that Name. Salvation is found in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in no other name under heaven. If we reject His Name, then the Lord, obligated to His Word, must then reject us.

Buried in Baptism!

We should also dismiss the idea of sprinkling here as well. Look what the Bible says about baptism.

Romans 6: 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Colossians 2: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

We are to be “buried” in baptism. Full immersion in water! Sprinkling is not burying.

Repent, and be baptized.
Baptism is an adult activity, not for children for Peter clearly states that we are to “repent” and be baptized. How can a child, or especially a baby repent? It cannot. We must first repent. To repent is not just to be sorry, it is to make right the things that you did wrong. If you told a lie, go tell the truth. If you stole something, go give it back. We must repent else we simply to into the water a dry sinner and come out a wet sinner.

Matthew 3: Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

John was not saying this in vain. We MUST first repent, then be baptized in full immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ. Then, and only then, we will receive the Holy Spirit.

Specifics!

How important is it? How specific must we be?

Proverbs 14: 2 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Traditions! Creeds! Dogmas! Canons!

“Oh but brother we have a long tradition in our church and our pastor says we are doing it right with sprinkles, with babies, with titles. We have a long standing tradition of doctrine and we have some of the fines people in the world at our church” That is fine, but what does God say? What did Jesus say about your traditions?

Mark 7: 6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

When we reject the Word of God in favour of our traditions, our creeds, our denominations, then we are rejecting Jesus Christ himself.

So what do we do?

Well there was a fellow in the Bible, who in Acts 18 was called a mighty preacher, and he found out that he could not receive the Holy Spirit until he obeyed Acts 2:38-39 to the letter. He was baptized. And he was baptized by John the Baptist. The Lord God, however, would not accept that baptism and he and his congregation all had to be rebaptized.

Acts 19: 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

Now you know the truth. You now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you need to repent and be baptized in full immersion in water in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Then you shall receive the Holy Spirit. How vital is it?

Romans 8: 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Without the proper baptism we have no remission of sins. That means we still carry every single sin and will have to account for them. Without the proper baptism and remission of sins, we cannot receive the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, we do not belong to Christ. Without the proper baptism we are simply not yet Christians. And if we do not belong to Christ, then there is only one other that we can belong to be default.

What will you do about it?

Will you humble yourself as Apollos did and obey the Word of God and receive the Holy Spirit? Will you seek out a pastor that will baptize you in the proper Christian baptism of full immersion in the name of Jesus Christ? Will you get remission of your sins? Will you follow the prescription for receiving the Holy Spirit and become a born again, Spirit filled Christian? Will you do what is right in the eyes of the Lord?

Or will you reject it in favour of your traditions and creeds.

It is up to you now. Choose.
